Wow...it's September already. Oddly it hasn't really felt much like summer on the water. We have just three more trips to go so we'll be done sailing at the end of the month. Then the work of taking the boat apart and laying her up for the winter starts. Busy but so different. No strangers asking lots of questions. I'm looking forward to getting back into my winter routine...meetings, steel drum practice (although I did just play a gig with the band last night at the Camden Yacht Club), radio station volunteering and show, sanding, painting, paperwork, and just hanging out with friends and family. I've got some knitting projects I'd like to get to and lots of books I'd like to read. I tried to sign up for the toboggan building class that the Camden high school adult ed program is offering but it's already full. I wonder if there's someone around that's good with tools and wood that would be willing to help me make one....Dan? You'd have to be willing to launch your body down the chute at the Snow Bowl in February on the end result! I've already got a great idea for a theme and costumes! Last year a friend and I were Thing 1 and Thing 2 and I only wish I knew how to post photos to the blog because I'd include a picture of us here.

It was great to run into Dan at the Knox County Democrats Lobster Bake a few weekends ago. It was kind of fun to go from doing two lobster bakes a week with about 50 lobsters to helping serve 150 in that setting. And Dan was looking very handsome...new shoes and all! I'm just sorry I had to leave early to get to the schooner to welcome passengers so I didn't get the chance to exchange anything but pleasantries. I hope to catch up after the season is over.

I do hope all is going well and that you've had a few opportunities to check out the stars. Friday night cleared up and with just a sliver of moon it was a spectacular viewing night. Orion is laying lazily on the Eastern horizon in the early morning....preparing for his winter hunt. I bumped into a woman on deck in the night and she asked me what the cloudy stripe was in the sky. When I explained that it was the Milky Way she told me that she had never seen it before. In the morning others said that we have way more stars here in Maine than they have where they live. Little things like that help keep it all in prospective....how very fortunate we are.

Hugs,
Brenda
